It is important to assure that the parents of Golden Retriever puppies have each had OFA radiographs taken and that the results were negative for hip dysplasia. This will reduce the risk of the Golden Retriever puppies developing the disease later on in their lifetime. Proof of other health records such as vaccinations and deworming should also be provided to increase the chances of getting a healthy Golden Retriever puppy.
Golden Retriever puppies need to be examined at least once a year to maintain their health. Proper exercise, grooming, and training are also needed to keep a Golden Retriever healthy. They do best in large environments such as country homes and are not suited for small areas such as apartment living. Golden Retrievers are kept content as long as they have enough space to run around and get adequate attention.
